University Self-Monitoring Policy and Procedures for Ensuring Compliance with Applicable Laws and Regulations (revision for Approval to Operate Policy)

Addendum - The University Self-Monitoring Policy and Procedures for Ensuring Compliance with Applicable Laws and Regulations is a revision added to the Approval to Operate Policy listed in the catalog. This revision is effective 9-16-2024.

California Health Sciences University (CHSU) is required to comply with certain federal and California state laws and regulations. This Policy identifies the procedures developed by CHSU to maintain compliance with the requirements of the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) (https://www.bppe.ca.gov/).

CHSU is located in Clovis, California and accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).  CHSU includes two post-baccalaureate degree programs – the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree offered through the College of Osteopathic Medicine; and the Master of Biomedical Sciences (MSBS) degree offered through the College of Biosciences and Health Professions.  CHSU is a private University that is approved to operate as such by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). “Approval to Operate” means that California Health Sciences University is in compliance with standards and requirements as set forth in CEC94897 (1).

The University is committed to compliance with the requirements set by the State of California and the BPPE.  Because the State and BPPE regularly update their requirements, the University must have timely access to information about any additions or changes to the legal and regulatory requirements.

Members of the University’s administrative team subscribe to the BPPE’s email notification service and review the BPPE’s announcements.  Agendas for Advisory Committee Meetings are reviewed to determine if there will be discussion on issues relevant to the University and, if so, identify who from the University should attend.   Where appropriate, information provided by the BPPE concerning intention to amend or issue new regulations changes and other relevant information from Advisory Committee meetings are distributed to appropriate administrative staff.

Where applicable, staff are encouraged to attend BPPE workshops.  Annual report and school performance fact sheets and other reporting required by the BPPE are discussed by the staff and shared with the Board of Trustees.  The University posts School Performance Fact Sheets and Annual Reports as required by BPPE.
