This course provides a comprehensive overview of hematology, hematopathology and introduces key concepts of oncology, including cancers of solid organs and of the hematological/lymphatic systems. The presentation, pathophysiology, and pathology of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic diseases of the blood and lymphatic system will be discussed. Topics include hematopoiesis, transfusion medicine, red cell disorders, infections, white cell disorders, primary immune deficiencies, platelet and coagulation disorders. Clinical work-ups, common diagnostic tests and their interpretation, and pertinent treatments will be integrated throughout the course. (A,B,C,F grade)
